Back-to-School Health Tips
September often means back-to-school season, and whether you’re a student or a parent, it’s important to be mindful of your spine health. Carrying heavy backpacks, long hours of sitting, and the stress of new routines can all take a toll on your body. Here are a few tips to keep your spine healthy:
- Backpack Safety: Choose a backpack with wide, padded straps and always wear it on both shoulders. The backpack should weigh no more than 10-15% of the student’s body weight.
- Posture Check: Ensure your child’s workstation is ergonomically set up to avoid slouching. A supportive chair and a desk at the right height can make a big difference.
- Regular Breaks: Encourage short breaks to stand up, stretch, and move around. This helps reduce the strain on the spine from prolonged sitting.
